Nifty earring holders

I love earrings. I primarily wear stud earrings or the diamond ones my husband gave me several years ago. Since my ears are pierced twice, I tend to have a need fore more earrings.

For some time, I tried desperately to find a way to store them where I could find pairs easily, but didn't want to spend money on a $20 metal storage unit.

Instead, I came up with an idea to create a way to both store my earrings and travel with them easily.

To make this, you'll need:
2" Wide ribbon, cut into approximately 18" strips
A single belt loop (D-shaped)
Pre-made ribbons (I chose to use these instead of making them myself for both contrast and the fact that I simply cannot make my own ribbons, no matter how hard I try)
Sewing Machine
Something to pierce small holes into the fabric with. I chose to use a spare wood burner we have. It seals the holes so that there's no fraying, while creating them at the same time. One quick touch makes a small enough hole.

On the top side of your ribbon, fold the corners together to make a point in the center of your ribbon. Sew horizontially along the edges to secure in place.

Fold in each side (left and right), approximately 1/2 cm, but only for about 1" of the lengh of the ribbon. Secure in place again with a few stitches.

Loop this point through your D-loop and secure this in place again with a few stitches.

Cut the bottom of your ribbon to create two 'flag points'. Slightly burn the edges of your new cut to prevent fraying.

Burn holes into your ribbon approximately 1 inch apart and in 1/2 inch increments.

Affix the bow to the bottom, as the bow adds weight to prevent the ribbon from curling and also adds contrast.

These are a great gift idea for your tween or young girl. If you do not want to make one for yourself, I make them as well for $8 each.

  1. That is really cute! You could sell those on Etsy. I don't have any studs or I'd get one!
